Conference Mission: To cultivate strategic government, community, and academic partnerships and strengthen infrastructure to promote health equity in Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders.
Conference Goals: To develop key strategies and recommendations for:
*Fostering strategic government, community, and academic collaborations to build capacity for initiating and designing research that is relevant and meaningful to AA and NHPI health
*Strengthening methods and strategies for collection and reporting of AA and NHPI health data at national, state, and local levels
*Influencing and transforming health and health care policies, programs, and systems that increase the representation of AAs and NHPIs in the health and health research workforce
*Building organizational and community capacity to empower organizations to become leaders in AA and NHPI health
This year’s conference will build on the US Department of Health and Human Services 2011 Plan for AA and NHPI Health. The plan outlines the Department’s top priorities and strategies for improved health by focusing on critical improvements in the areas of data collection, workforce development, treatment and prevention. The 2011 conference will bring together government, community, and academic experts within an agenda-setting structure to define recommendations and to support the HHS Plan. Conference participants will participate in one of four Tracks (1) Building the Infrastructure in AA and NHPI Health Research; (2) Advancing Racial Equity & Healing; (3) Getting the News Out: Innovations and Partnerships to sharing outcomes and advocating for change to advance the health of AA & NHPIs; and (4) Building Community Capacity and Leadership. Each Track will highlight existing models and best practices through two panel presentations and a concluding brainstorming session.
